The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aim to significantly reduce all forms of violence, and work with governments and communities to find lasting solutions to conflict and insecurity.

Strengthening the rule of law and promoting human rights is key to this process’ (http://www.undp.org/content/undp/en/home/sdgoverview/post-2015-development-agenda/goal-16.html). At AIU, we believe that all human being are born free and equal in dignity and rights.

Amani works to promote the realization and enjoyment of fundamental human rights and freedoms by all persons irrespective of their status. This is achieved through a combination of research, documentation, rights promotional activities, legal remedies and advocacy on human and people’s rights namely: civil and political rights, economic, social & cultural rights, including environmental rights.

As a human right defender, Amani works in collaboration with other rights defenders to promote and protect human rights in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, and all relevant regional and international norms to which Uganda is a party.
